Spring is such a fleeting transitional season in California, where it feels like we just go from having Summer to having even more Summer. But one of the best aspects of California is of course the gorgeous, never ending beaches. While it’s often too cold to go swimming, we love taking walks on the boardwalk of Venice, and getting an eye-full of the mix of crazy prints and colorful characters. Richie and I drew a lot of inspiration for the Spring collection from both the California Valley Girl and the beach babes of Venice. Women who live their lives in the open, fearlessly mixing and matching colors and patterns to create unique looks entirely their own.
There’s always fantastic examples from the runways around the world, it seems as if everyone from Pucci to Rebecca Minkoff has caught the California fever!
Sheers, mixed media, skirts and shorts, there’s a few common elements that run throughout, but the basics of the Venice beach babe include tropical prints, athletic body styles, plenty of oversized t-shirts and surf, skate and street styles. Mix and match!
Inspiration can come from anywhere, but they always say to write what you know, and we “write” what we know by designing for California girls all over the world. Rock on, and enjoy these transitional Spring days as Summer will be here before you know it.
