We just loved seeing this picture of Holly Robinson Peete on the red carpet in custom Nikki Rich. She was out on the town last night for the Target sponsored iHeartRadio “20/20” album release party featuring Justin Timberlake at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. The blazer, crafted from silk, features lame´inserts on the back and is embellished with an amazingly soft vegan leather trim. The piece was also recently requested to be featured in a Beverly Hills Lifestyle editorial spread that will be published sometime in the near future. As for Holly, we are always grateful to see such a beautiful person ROCK Nikki Rich!
We were beaming to see the ever-lovely Karina Smirnoff (Dancing With The Stars) on the pages of People.com and the LA Daily News wearing custom Nikki Rich to The Last Stand premier last Monday night in Hollywood. The dress fit her body like a glove, and we think she looked fantastic. The bodice, crafted from a laser cut leather, has a dreamy silk lining underneath to give it just enough shimmer and glamour for a star-studded premier like this. But what makes it truly different is the daring cutout neckline and the unique leather inlay pattern. The bottom of the dress is constructed from a soft yet supple stretch leather that makes this dress not only gorgeous, but comfortable as well. By the way, we love her choice of shoes…you just can’t go wrong with a pop of leopard.
I love fashion news. From the pages of the fashion magazines, the New York Times Fashion & Style section and WWD, I just can’t get enough. I find it so interesting to understand the culture and see trends as they are happening. I was reading WWD today and came across a tiny article that spoke to the pre-season fall 2013 collections and explained that leather tops are a huge trend right now. Images from Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Alexander Wang (the new head designer at Balenciaga) and many others show stunning models in leather tops and tunics as well as leather cut t-shirts and trimmings. We love to use leather in our collections for Nikki Rich and now also for Crome, and we have several leather pieces in both collections that we can’t wait to unveil to you. In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to revisit some of the ways we have used leather in past for our collections and custom pieces…as worn by Carrie Underwood, Richie Sambora, Amanda Righetti and Brad Paisley.
My phone has been off the hook today with people calling in their kindest compliments about the Crome jacket Richie wore last night to the premier of Inside Out. A documentary about Bon Jovi, Inside Out was recorded during a handful of sold out shows at amazing venues like Madison Square Garden, London’s O2 Arena and of course, the Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. While the entire band looked amazing, the jacket Richie wore was really something special. Crafted from sumptuously soft and handsomely distressed leather this updated motor jacket silhouette fit him beautifully. We were in the design studio the other day talking about what men want when they are shopping and I just loved the way he explained that when men shop, they shop for clothes to attract the ladies…motor jackets, dark jeans, dark tone shirts…apparently it’s working! We are putting the finishing touches on the Crome line and can’t wait to share it with you.
More sketching and styling today for the Fall 13 Nikki Rich and Crome collections has been really exciting – and makes me think of new beginnings and new memories to be made. The process has been making me quite reflective, but at the same time, very excited about the future. While Richie and I are so thrilled about all of the wonderful things (and there are many!) that lie ahead for Nikki Rich, It feels really good look to the past and all of the things that brought us to where we are today. Moving around the design studio earlier I came across the tan leather, short-sleeve shift dress Larissa Ricci asked us to design for Tiffani Amber Thiessen (the talented actress who got her start on Beverly Hills 90210 and continues to amaze us with her talent now on the series White Collar) to wear to the 4th Annual Shorty Awards last March. I really love and appreciate working with stylists like Larissa who are so professional and always look out for the very best pieces for their clients. We think Tiffani looked hot in the design – the cut was really flattering on her amazing body and the tone of that soft leather just made her complexion glow. My mind is active with inspiration for the Fall 13 collection…grateful for the past and excited for the future.
Richie and I are so excited about the upcoming, official launch of our men’s line, Crome, and we have been working hard (if you can even call it working) to create samples for the Fall 13 collection. Designing with Richie is amazing. Not only does he have a great eye, but he makes it all so fun as he really enjoys conceptualizing ideas and the process it takes to make them come alive. Fashion is such an important part of who I am, and I truly feel in my element when I am sketching designs, picking out perfect fabrics and creating what I consider to be beautiful pieces of art. Richie completely inspired every piece in this collection, including the beautiful snakeskin print leather jacket you see here, and he can’t wait to wear them. You can get a sneak peek of the entire Crome line when you get out to see Richie on tour to support his powerful new record Aftermath Of The Lowdown.
We are so excited to have our Butterfly jacket featured in the pages of the Fall Fashion Issue of Beverly Hills Lifestyle magazine. The Butterfly jacket is a custom piece that Alanis Morisette wore on the cover of the August 28th Calendar section of Los Angeles Times. Immediately upon being returned to our showroom, my dear friend and stylist to the stars, Toni Ferrara (clients include…Kim Kardashian, Scarlett Johanssen, Giuliana Rancic, Matthew McConneaghey, Kate Beckinsale, and countless others), scooped it up for the Beverly Hills Lifestyle magazine editorial. The jacket was fashioned from the softest gray and cream colored perforated leather and is lined with a metallic copper fabric that subtlety shows through the perforations. It catches the light and will take your breath away when you see it glisten…like butterfly wings when you catch one floating past you. Finished with a button closure and softened with a bit of ruffle along the waist, it is the high shoulders that give this lovely piece an immediate confidence to truly command attention.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about strong women…who they are, what they stand for, what they want, and how they get it. I’ve been thinking about the path women take to become strong, gain respect and keep it. How can you not have enormous respect for a woman who understands what it takes to survive in this world, be bold, and take charge of her life? When designing for Nikki Rich, Richie and I want the designs to have a feminine sensibility, and at the same time still exude power, confidence and class. We love working with leather and think it’s an important material to use to create strong, but feminine pieces. We were really excited about designing the Love Dream leather jacket for the Fall 12 collection. It has beautiful features that at first glance appear to be very bold, but when you look a little closer you can’t miss the soft details that make it so special. The curved, cropped jacket was constructed with quilted leather and a single closure, loosely fitted around the collar. When you look closely at the detail you can see how it gathers to one side…demanding attention in the most subtle of ways…like only a strong woman truly knows how to do.
Finding inspiration for the Stone dress from the Fall 12 Collection was effortless. The last time Richie was in Greece he sent me a photograph of a sculpture of a breathtaking Grecian Goddess he had seen in a museum. Although it was only a still image I could almost see her long, flowing dress moving in the air. The goddess herself was beautiful, and easily epitomized an ethereal strength I had not seen before. When sketching ideas for the Fall 12 Collection we just knew we had to design a piece that spoke to this aesthetic. Using the softest modal fabric on the planet we took great care to pay attention to the fine details of the dress including the one full sleeve which was cut out to reveal the shoulder and bring a dress inspired by history into the present day. The belt you see is a funky, vintage piece that I threw in to add another element of character, but Richie and I are currently working on a line of accessories to compliment all of the looks you see on the Nikki Rich website. I was also fortunate enough to have been able to design a second, silk version of this dress for the ever-talented actress Alexandra Breckenridge who wore it recently to the Emmy awards ceremony. The slit on her dress is much more pronounced that the one from the collection, but we all felt it was appropriate for the occasion. Move over Angelina!
Brunette beauty, Kate Beckinsale, brought out her sophisticated edge in Nikki Rich at a Total Recall photo call in Cancun, Mexico. Behold the black ‘Thalia’ silk tweed jacket with woven lame´ shimmer and leather trim lapel and cuffs, paired with black box pleat ‘Iris’ silk tweed shorts from the Nikki Rich FW12 collection. We love shorts for Fall…are you in?
