As most of you know, music is in my soul. It’s such a big part of who I am and how I view the world. While I find inspiration in many different ways when designing, music is always an over arching influence. I can only assume that you are like the rest of...Read more →
My phone has been off the hook today with people calling in their kindest compliments about the Crome jacket Richie wore last night to the premier of Inside Out. A documentary about Bon Jovi, Inside Out was recorded during a handful of sold out shows at amazing venues like Madison Square Garden, London’s O2 Arena and of course, the Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey. While the entire band looked amazing, the jacket Richie wore was really something special. Crafted from sumptuously soft and handsomely distressed leather this updated motor jacket silhouette fit him beautifully. We were in the design studio the other day talking about what men want when they are shopping and I just loved the way he explained that when men shop, they shop for clothes to attract the ladies…motor jackets, dark jeans, dark tone shirts…apparently it’s working! We are putting the finishing touches on the Crome line and can’t wait to share it with you.
This might surprise you…and as you get to know me you’ll find that I am a woman of many surprises…but I just can’t get enough of Country music these days. While my heart beats loud for rock and roll (and so does Richie’s) we both have an overwhelming appreciation for all things Country! When Richie is on stage playing a double neck guitar wearing a black hat with silver conchos on it singing “I’m a Cowboy…” the influence is evident. As a part of the new men’s Crome line we are designing for Fall 2013 there are a noticeable amount of cowboy influenced shirts, denim and tees.
The thing that I love most about Country music is that when you really listen closely you can easily identify with it on so many levels. The lyrics really resonate as they are so often filled with tales we can all relate to…stories of every day life, loss, pain, failure and love.
While we feel so honored when we see people like Kate Beckensale, Nicole Scherzinger or Alanis Morissette wearing our designs, our hearts also run heavy for Country stars like Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, Brad Paisely and Kelli Pickler, who also know how to infuse their Country sensibility and ROCK Nikki Rich!
Richie Sambora rocked the Ford Theater in LA on Tuesday night to support his album Aftermath Of The Lowdown. When a friend asked me today, “How was the show?” I told her that it was not just a “show,” it was a spectacular evening and an amazing experience..on so many levels. Richie is such a caring person and in response to the hurricane devastation left in his home state of New Jersey he decided to donate all of the profits from the show to the American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Fund. He also added to amazing VIP packages to raise even more. Breathtaking in a Crome black leather conductor jacket Richie, as always, left it all on the stage, for Los Angeles, for New Jersey, for his fans.
More sketching and styling today for the Fall 13 Nikki Rich and Crome collections has been really exciting – and makes me think of new beginnings and new memories to be made. The process has been making me quite reflective, but at the same time, very excited about the future. While Richie and I are so thrilled about all of the wonderful things (and there are many!) that lie ahead for Nikki Rich, It feels really good look to the past and all of the things that brought us to where we are today. Moving around the design studio earlier I came across the tan leather, short-sleeve shift dress Larissa Ricci asked us to design for Tiffani Amber Thiessen (the talented actress who got her start on Beverly Hills 90210 and continues to amaze us with her talent now on the series White Collar) to wear to the 4th Annual Shorty Awards last March. I really love and appreciate working with stylists like Larissa who are so professional and always look out for the very best pieces for their clients. We think Tiffani looked hot in the design – the cut was really flattering on her amazing body and the tone of that soft leather just made her complexion glow. My mind is active with inspiration for the Fall 13 collection…grateful for the past and excited for the future.
I know without a doubt, that each and every person reading this right now has one piece of clothing that they know they’ll never stop reaching for. Maybe it’s a pair of your hottest blue jeans or the softest cashmere sweater you own…maybe it’s an old t-shirt that has been washed and worn so much it feels like it’s a part of you. Last night I was walking out the door to join some friends for dinner when I felt a crisp chill in the Los Angeles air. Without even thinking I reached into my closet and pulled out my Steel Fire blazer. Crafted from a soft stretch Ponte fabric it’s easily my go-to piece. Richie and I love working with Ponte. It is a tightly woven knit that feels super smooth under your hand, and while we designed it for Fall, Ponte is truly a seasonless, versatile fabric to work with. The Steel Fire blazer was designed with a faux crocodile insert which makes it look sexy with jeans and stylish with dress trousers. Honestly, it is one of those pieces I will never stop reaching for. On our website we show it with our Wild Dove pant – also made from a Ponte knit with faux crocodile insert. The sexy but super comfortable skinny leg design make them look good with anything you might think to pair them with.
We were so excited to see Blake Shelton wearing the suede jacket we created for him on The Voice on NBC this past Monday night (November 5, 2012). When Trish Townsend, Blake’s stylist, called to let us know what he was looking for we could not wait to get started. Fashioned from a deliciously dark brown suede, it’s got a casual but super masculine feel to it, making it truly versatile. Blake must have felt as good as he looked in it because not only did he wear it for the show that night, but he kept it on throughout an Extra interview with Christina, Adam and CeeLo, and later out to dinner at Osteria Mozza with Christina Aguilera and his lovely wife Miranda Lambert. I’ve mentioned already how excited we are to be designing for the Fall 13 collection for Crome and seeing these images of Blake from Monday night keeps our inspiration alive.
Richie and I are so excited about the upcoming, official launch of our men’s line, Crome, and we have been working hard (if you can even call it working) to create samples for the Fall 13 collection. Designing with Richie is amazing. Not only does he have a great eye, but he makes it all so fun as he really enjoys conceptualizing ideas and the process it takes to make them come alive. Fashion is such an important part of who I am, and I truly feel in my element when I am sketching designs, picking out perfect fabrics and creating what I consider to be beautiful pieces of art. Richie completely inspired every piece in this collection, including the beautiful snakeskin print leather jacket you see here, and he can’t wait to wear them. You can get a sneak peek of the entire Crome line when you get out to see Richie on tour to support his powerful new record Aftermath Of The Lowdown.
One of the most sought after outerwear pieces from the Fall 12 Collection has been the Mozart sweater jacket. Initially inspired by Sgt. Pepper, the phenomenal album released by the Beatles in June of 1967, the look of a conductor’s jacket is at once commanding, masculine, and instantly recognizable. While the inspiration is solid, the look and feel of our Mozart sweater jacket stands alone. The strong, powerful lines of a conductor jacket and the soft, feminine lines of our sweater blend perfectly to make this a versatile anchor piece in your wardrobe. It feels as amazing as it looks with a cable knit and knotted pattern that is constructed from a super soft silk/wool blend. The design would not have been complete without the double-breasted tailoring which is instantly softened by the silk chiffon raw-edged trim that gives this piece a vulnerability you would not expect otherwise. Why should men have all the fun with this look? Make it your own.
I get such a unique thrill when I see someone I respect so much wearing a Nikki Rich design, and Carrie Underwood is one of those people. Besides her unrelenting talent and amazing eye for fashion, she is one of the most kind, gracious and beautiful people I’ve met! You may not know this but Carrie’s stylist, Trish Townsend is a dear friend to me and we often work together to design pieces specifically with Carrie in mind. We just have so much fun sending sketches and fabric samples back and forth until we get it just right. For the Fall 12 Collection we worked together to create the Sunshine shirt that Carrie wears so beautifully in her “Good Girl” music video. We found ourselves inspired by a vintage sensibility that spoke to something feminine and fragile, but strong at the same time. The corset inspired design (which Carrie just loves) features chiffon inserts on the sleeves and sides and has a sexy drape in the back. What I love most about this piece though is the prominent shape and silhouette of the sleeves. They are broad, bold, and bring a focus of attention to the shoulders and neckline. They just make you stand up straight and be noticed!
